This is how MEPS Climate Calculation facilitates sustainability reporting

MEPS Climate Calculation is the Nordic region's first service for calculating the climate impact of property repairs. The service is part of MEPS - the insurance industry's standard system for handling claims in real estate. The climate calculation is available from insurance companies throughout the Nordics and the Baltics, and can facilitate your own sustainability work.

Greater demands on sustainability and reporting

For the Nordic insurance industry, sustainability is an increasingly important issue. Authorities require companies to report on sustainability and account for their emissions. For this, reliable data is needed, and that is where MEPS Climate Calculation comes into the picture. Maria Eriksson is a developer at CAB and driving force in the development of the climate calculation.

-In all MEPS missions, a large amount of data is collected which helps the user to analyze and streamline operations. MEPS Climate Calculation adds another dimension of knowledge that can improve sustainability work in property repair and damage management, says Maria Eriksson. We deliver data that can create an awareness of the climate impact of construction damage and guide users to make informed, more sustainable choices.

This is how MEPS climate data is used

Jenny Fagerdahl, product specialist at CAB, is one of the people who started the project.

-How the information from MEPS Climate Calculation is to be used is up to each customer. We have regular discussions with several companies, and there is great interest in climate calculation data and how it can be used in sustainability reporting. However, it takes some time to build up enough data to be able to draw conclusions. The companies are learning how to use the data and which parts they want to analyze more deeply in their sustainability work, says Jenny Fagerdahl.

Maria Eriksson gives a future vision of how Climate Calculation can be used:

- You could analyze which material choices or repair methods have the greatest impact on the amount of carbon dioxide equivalents, and then adapt your work to reduce your emissions. In contact with the end customer, it could be shown that a partial repair of a damaged floor means so much less carbon dioxide equivalents compared to replacing the entire floor, and in this way make them aware of the climate impact.

Collaboration with IVL to calculate climate impact

The climate data that is combined with the MEPS data comes from the IVL Swedish Environmental Institute. In consultation with them, CAB Group set up how the climate calculation should take place.

- MEPS Climate Calculation shows a calculation of kilo carbon dioxide equivalents in each MEPS mission. You can see how many kilos of carbon dioxide equivalents different parts of the mission account for; material, energy consumption, passenger transport and material transport, explains Jenny Fagerdahl.
