CAB Group and the industry organization Swedish Insurance have jointly initiated the development of MEPS Climate Calculation. MEPS Climate Calculation is a tool for insurance companies to gain insights into the climate impact of property repairs and thereby obtain a basis for making more sustainable choices.

MEPS Climate Calculation is based on basic data from the IVL Swedish Environmental Institute. IVL and CAB have decided in consultation how MEPS will calculate climate data. A general calculation of the claims case's climate impact in the form of kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents is reported in the system.

Sustainability an important issue for the insurance industry

Swedish Insurance with its member companies has a strong focus on reducing the industry's climate footprint. One way is to create awareness about how different choices when repairing damage in properties affect the climate. Therefore, the interest in MEPS Climate Calculation is great among Swedish insurance companies, and several of them will now start using the tool as part of their own sustainability work.

Integrated into MEPS

MEPS Climate calculation is integrated into the MEPS system. The climate calculation takes place in parallel with process management and damage calculation. In this way, it becomes clear to clients and executors of repair work what climate impact the repair of the damage will have, calculated in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents.

MEPS climate calculation available for the rest of the Nordic countries in 2024

MEPS Climate Calculation will be launched in October 2023 on the Swedish market. In 2024, the service will begin to be used by insurance companies in the rest of the Nordic region.
